David Franklin, Ad.E. graduated from McGill Law School in 1959 and joined the law firm of Franklin & Franklin in Montreal, which was founded by his father M.H. Franklin Q.C. in 1925, joining his brother Martin Franklin (retired) and currently Jonathan Franklin, B.Comm, LLC. The firm is a general commercial and business law firm and David concentrates on international commercial debt recovery.

He has been Chairman of various international law conferences in London, Amsterdam, Dublin and in 1992, in China between the Barreau du Québec and the All China Bar Association.

David has given lectures in over twenty countries and has written numerous articles on international commercial debt recovery. He has published the following books, “International Commercial Debt Collection” 2007, and co-author with Steve Harms “International Commercial Secured Transactions” 2010, Thomson Carswell, and co-author with Martin Franklin of “Introduction to Québec Law”, Copp-Clark. and is currently working on another book to be published in 2012.

He is member of the Québec Bar, the Canadian Bar, the International Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association, of which he is the Montreal Chair of the International Section and is Chair of the International Creditors’ Rights Committee. On May 29th, he was honored by the Québec Bar with the honorific designation of Avocat Emeritus for outstanding contribution to the Québec Bar.

David was a Professional Adjunct at Concordia University in Montreal, where he taught law in the John Molson School of Business for 45 years.

David is an active Rotarian and in 1992 was the Charter President of the Rotary Club of Old Montreal.

Since 2001, he has been the Honorary Consul of Iceland in Montreal.
